Hole on inside of wooden cabinet door. How to Fix?
We have a hole about the size of someone’s fist on the inside wood of one of our cabinet doors. The outside (visible) part of the door is fine. Just curious if there was a product or way to fix the door without actually needing to go through the hassle of replacing it and matching it with the the rest of the cabinets.

There are many different kinds of cabinet doors…not only in what they are made out of, but how they are made, and finished.
Anyone can say ‘slap some putty on it’… but that may not be the best repair in all situations. For example, you would not want to apply putty where a center panel fits inside a stile or rail…it would cause problems later.
I can see wood putty as one method of repair… if the door is painted, it would be fairly easy to cover the putty.
If this is a hollow core door, putty would not be my first choice.
If this is a ‘typical’ cabinet door, made up of stiles/rails/and a panel… then it depends on ‘where’ the damage is at on the door, as to how to best make the repair.
Some general options:
Wood putty and finish to match
Use a filler and laminate, or veneer, over it
Replace the damaged portion of the door…this can be easy or difficult depending on where the damage is at.
Replace the door entirely. A good wood finisher should be able to match your existing finish.
