I want to install a second data storage harddrive. Do I need an OS on it and what about extra fans?

I currently have a MSI KM4M-V motherboard with a 80 gig drive. The fan is probably your usual little computer fan. I want to install a second 500 gig harddrive to hold my large video/graphic files I use in my computer art hobbies. I don’t want to burn out the computer or over tax it to much. Are there any tips on the amount of fan I should have and the brands that work best? Thanks.

As long as the power supply is big enough and the case is well ventilated, then the case fan that is currently installed should be enough.

On the msi board there is a fail safe trigger that gives you a warning when the cpu is running too hot.

You can enter the cmos by depressing the Delete key on boot up
