Can airline security truly protect someone from getting a weapon on board?
Just wondering, no I have no criminal plans. But do metal detectors truly clear you? My belt buckle is metal, the button on my blue jeans is metal, so something could be concealed in that area and the source of the beeping would be mistaken, and I am yet to see airline security tell someone to drop their pants.
I meant “prevent someone” not “Protect” someone. Typo there.
The metal detectors are calibrated so small amounts of metal (rivets on your jean pockets for example) will not set it off. But a gun or knife is large enough that it should set the detector off. And if you do set it off, they have a “wand” to hand check what area is setting it off. They will not tell someone to “drop their pants” in the public area. If they need someone to do this, they take them to a private room.
Is it possible to get a weapon through? Of course it’s possible (anything is possible). But it’s very difficult.
