why is a cross cable used to connect a digital video recorder to a computer and not a straight cable.?
i am working an a cctv system which i need to setup to a network
When connecting two PC’s or a DVR and PC together you must use a crossover cable.
When connecting two PC’s or a DVR and PC together using a hub, router or switch you must use a straight cable.
As far as I know, ethernet crossover cables are used for testing only. This will help isolate the DVR from the router and the WAN (World Wide Network) and help troubleshoot what is actually causing the problem.
But u don’t use Ethernet Crossover cables for final installation or connecting a router to your modem. UseEthernet straight cables for final installations from your DVR to the router and from the router to the modem.
