Indoor Golf in Chicago
Yes, the snow is in the air, temperatures falling, and getting back on the links seems a lifetime off. So for depressed golfers like me all over the Greater Chicago area our only hope for a mood modification is indoor golf near Chicago. There are bargains to be found on golf vacation packages, but one long weekend of golf will not get you through a protracted, cold winter.
The best and most obvious alternative is the golf dome. A lot of of us have used these golf oases across the country, but know little about them. The first Indoor Golf Dome was engineered and patented in 1982 by Mr. Dan Fraioli. It provided for fifty golfers to hit golf balls with no swing limitations in an air structure that measured 300 ft. in width and eighty feet high. This first of its kind dome has lead to golf domes becoming big all throughout the United States.
Being a resident of the Chicago suburbs nearly all of my fifty-seven years I have been lucky enough to golf on many of the fantastic courses in the region and have patronized a number of the golf domes near Chicago. The neat thing we all get to enjoy about indoor golf in Illinois is the climate. It sure is better than a round of golf on the links when it’s 10F below zero and the wind-chill is 30F below. And for the average price of $15 a week you can keep those golf muscles in condition.
I have discovered over my forty-five years of golf the easiest methods to apply and lower your scores are in the short game. Most of the indoor golf domes have great deals regarding the use of their putting and chipping areas. One dome I vist frequently asks just $10 for an hour on the practice green. Not much for working on your golf chipping lessons. Spend a few days a week doing this and come spring you will shave five to ten strokes from your score. One dome I like going to has a virtual indoor golf simulator. Spend some time on one of these babies and you will be addicted. If you have never tried a simulator you are in for a bang-up time. Some of the domes also have snack bars where you can purchase beer, soft drinks, sandwiches and snacks. Some even provide wide screen televisions where you can check out your favorite game.
Now you have no excuses to mope around the house all winter because you cannot go outside to golf on the links. And one more note about indoor golf in Chicago, indoor golf in Columbus, Ohio or anywhere else for that matter.
If the domes simply are not accessible for you I propose you get a golf hitting mat (just like the ones you use at the range) and a golf net you can assemble in your garage, yard, basement or any area in the house where you can swing a club. The neat thing about these is they are at your disposal whenever you have a little extra time, and you can use them year round.
