Is there anything i can do with existing interior doors (over 100 years old) to make them fire resistant.?

I am coverting loft space and want to keep existing doors because they are in character with the house. planning have said they must be changed to fire resistant doors. I wish to avoid this as it would look rediculous and would be very expensive. any suggestions?

Clean them by dipping and then treat them with fire resistant varnish – I was told to put several coats of FR varnish on my wood ceiling.
