Help required with wire sizing for 12v led light circuit?
I want to install a 12 volt LED light circuit in the eaves of my house. The LED units would be 2w each, with 18 spread over a total length of 70 metres. I know that, due to voltage drop, the cable size is critical but am not sure how to do the calculation as the power demand is at varying distances from the power source; a battery charged by a air driven generator. Thanks for any help.
as a general rule of thumb, 1.5mm csa copper cable is used for lighting. But in this instance, 1mm csa will be more than adequate for your full load of 3amps. (british electricians 99.9% use copper cable for domestic installations)
