Waterproofing Digital Signage
The number of locations where digital signage is to be found is increasing every day. New installations are springing up all over the place, particularly in outdoor locations.
Outdoor digital signage is one of the growing areas of this relatively new industry. Implementing TVs for outside advertising will lead to a larger audience than a similar indoor system. However, outdoor digital signage is not simple to implement and there are many considerations that need to be considered that don’t apply to indoor systems.
Perhaps the most fundamental obstacle in utilising outdoor signage is the weather and in particular rain. Most LCD, plasma or back-lit LED screen are not designed to function in outdoor locations and are therefore susceptible to rainfall.
Even small amounts of water can permanently disable a modern flat-screen TV system, especially a standard device that has been designed primarily for indoor entertainment.
When it comes to implementing outdoor digital signage there are really two choices. The first is to source a bespoke outdoor TV system. Plasma and LCD screens are now produced that are waterproof to IP65 and NEMA 4 – the two main industry standards for waterproofing.
The only downside to these waterproof digital signage systems is the price. Waterproof TVs are extremely expensive and it will take an extremely long time to develop a return on investment (ROI) on any waterproof TV system.
However, the alternative is far more cost effective and will allow a ROI far sooner. Ensuring digital outdoor signage is protected from the rain and other weather elements can be tasked to the waterproof LCD enclosure.
These waterproof digital signage cabinets allow standard off-the-shelf devices to be used in any outdoor location. Waterpoof to the same NEMA and IP guidelines as outdoor TV systems, LCD enclosures cost a fraction of the price.
LCD enclosures can also be fitted with climatic controls; anti-glare glass and other innovations to ensure the quality of your signage campaign is not impinged by being outdoors.
Waterproof LCD enclosures have enabled digital outdoor signage to become one of the fastest growing areas of the new digital advertising industry.
