2001 Tiburon. Will not start. No power. lights horn radio clock all are out.?
We jump start it with another car or battery jumper and it will work anywhere from 1 day to several weeks. We have had the battery checked and been told it is in good condition (18 months old) any ideas? suggestions?
I own a shop, and think you need to check it out the right way. One can not say its the battery or the alternator. First things first! If the battery checks good, then its good. Second; if the alternator checks good, then you need to look at the connections, and the condition of the cables. I have seen a lose connection on the back of the alternator do this exact thing, so check out the wiring for problems. Finally; A way to check for shorts is like this; Hook a test light up between the (-) battery terminal, and the (-) battery cable, with the battery cable unhooked from the battery. Make sure everything is turned off in the vehicle. Now; If the light is burning, then you have a short, or drain on the system somewhere. Leave the light hooked up, and remove & replace the fuses one by one until you come to the one that makes the light go out, and you have isolated the faulty circuit. If none of the fuses makes the light go out, then unhook the wires from the back of the alternator. If the light finally goes out, then replace the alternator because its got an internal short. This is the proper way to find the drain on the battery.
