Why Fiber Optic Technology Is Safer Than The Electric Cable In Your Home

In a world where technology is ever-changing, how our homes are linked to the world is constantly advancing. Cable technology used to connect “us” together, but as fiber optic technology is pushing its way forward, it is steadily replacing copper wires as a means of communication signal transmission. The main reason is that fiber optics offers more benefits than traditional copper wires and cables.

1. Resistance to Interference. Fiber optics doesn’t conduct electricity since it is based from glass, which in turn eliminates the need for grounding and makes it immune to elctromagnetic interruption, even lightning. Unlike copper wires, fiber optics works using light pulses, making it usable outdoors and in proximity to electrical cables.

2. Efficiency and Security. Fiber optics is said to have “limitless bandwidth” which makes transmitting information with greater fidelity possible. It can give more than 1,000 times as much bandwidth over distances more than 100 times farther copper cables. The result is a super-fast connection that runs in circles around the bandwidth alloted by cable connections. Also, since fiber optics is more difficult to tap than ordinary copper cables, it can provide extra data security.

3. Low Maintenance. Fiber optics is not sensitive to water and chemicals since it is made of glass. Fiber optics is virtually free from corrosion; it almost runs no risk of being damaged by harsh elements, and can withstand “living conditions” that traditional copper cables cannot, like direct contact with soil. The cost of maintenance and service is cheaper than its counterpart because of this.

4. Picture Quality. The high-quality technology used in fiber optics is more powerful compared to copper cables. And since there is lack of external interference, you get high-definition picture quality from fiber optics technology.

5. Safety. In case fiber optic cables break, it poses no threat of physical injuries. Rather transmitting through electricity, it transmits data through light. Handlers run no risk of injury from fire, sparking or electrocution.
