I need to know how to tell if my impeller is bad on my mercruiser 120?
My boat ran great then i got it on to the water and it got real hot and started blowing oil through the pvc valve. About an hour later i tried cleaning the carb With carb cleaner and it was still hot enough to sizzle the cleaner. is this the sign of a bad impeller??
ouch! When you say “My boat ran great THEN I got it on to the water” Did you run it on land and did you have water hooked up to it via the muffs around the water pickup on the drive? If no, burnt impeller is a good bet, If you had the muffs, it could still be the impeller, but also circulating pump, plugged manifold, bad thermostat, plugged hose, etc.
Start troubleshooting from the beginning, from where the cooling water comes in to where it goes out.
