What sort of technology is used in CCTV systems?
The modern CCTV system involves a linked system of cameras with full PTZ (or pan, tilt, and zoom) features able to be operated remotely from a control room.
These systems may involve sophisticated technology. Features can include night vision (or infra-red), computer assisted operation, and motion detection facilities which allows the operator to instruct the system to go on red alert when anything moves in view of the cameras.
Camera systems increasingly employ bullet-proof casing, and automated self defense mechanisms which – as with the Liverpool system – ensure that cameras under attack are covered by neighboring cameras. These can be legitimately described as military style systems.
The clarity of CCTV footage is often excellent, and has grown past the point being able to recognize a cigarette packet from a hundred metres to a kilometre. The systems can often work in pitch blackness, bringing images up to daylight level.
Different Types of CCTV Cameras:
We have various different types of cameras on the market, from your infra-red cameras to PTZ cameras (which are pan, tilt and zoom cameras).
Your infra-red cameras are cameras that do not need any external lighting. The cameras can operate in complete darkness and the infra red is de-activated when there is sufficient light in the environment.
Your PTZ cameras (which are the pan, tilt and zoom) are operated remotely.
Then you have your CS mount cameras — cameras which are installed inside a house. They are normally indoor cameras and they are not waterproof as their purpose is not to be used completely outdoors unless they are in a totally waterproof housing.
